Welcome to
Systema Plantae

Systema Plantae is not just about creating rugs; it's about crafting bespoke textile masterpieces inspired by the natural world.
Curated by Keti Shahini, this project is deeply rooted in a profound appreciation for nature and a long-standing family tradition of craftsmanship.

Philosophy

Systema Plantae operates on the belief that true artistry emerges from observing and exploring natural elements. Like nature itself, the project is fluid, evolving, and alive. Each creation reflects this dynamic process, merging traditional techniques with a contemporary artistic vision.

Sustainability and Respect for Nature

The commitment is to minimize environmental impact through sustainable practices and eco-friendly materials. The yarns used are primarily pure wool and organic cotton, with some recovered from defunct factories or businesses.

This circular approach transforms what would be discarded into beautiful new creations, ensuring that waste is minimized and every piece tells a story of sustainability and ingenuity.

Unique and Handcrafted Pieces

Every creation at Systema Plantae is handmade, making each rug unique and inimitable. Unlike mass-produced items, the rugs are crafted through a meticulous process that begins with observing the natural environment, moving through artistic abstraction, and finally being transformed into textile form.

This careful process ensures that each rug is not just a decorative item but a true work of art, infused with the essence of nature and artistic vision.

One of the processes with which I create my designs

The rugs are crafted using three primary techniques: Tufting, Loom Weaving, and Loom Weaving with Turkish Knot.

Each technique offers a distinct texture and requires different timeframes based on the materials used. Many of the yarns are hand-dyed using natural dye plants or food waste, such as onion skins and avocado pits, adding an extra layer of environmental respect to the creations.
